Last year I had the opportunity to review Invasion, the first book in the C.H.A.O.S book series written by Jon S. Lewis. If you don’t already know, he also writes for DC Comics. Both the first and second novel have this comic-book like feel to them. When I reviewed his first book, I thought it was good but could have been better. I thought the character development was lacking something and needed more growth. When I saw that his second novel was up for review, I decided I would give it another chance and I am very glad I did!

Alienation is a non-stop, action-packed sci-fi novel that I believe younger boys will enjoy reading. I was happily surprised with the vast improvement in character development, especially with the main character, Colt. He no longer felt distant and cold as he did in the first book.

Colt is a 16 year old boy with a lot of weight on his shoulders. The Thule, alien shape-shifters want to take over Earth (naturally) and Colt may be the only one to save it. While training at the CHAOS military academy to get ready for this invasion, he learns that someone wants him dead. Colt’s friends Danielle and Oz help him through this dangerous and exciting adventure. Meanwhile, Colt unravels a secret about his past along the way.

I would also like to mention that I have read the Percy Jackson series and find it somewhat similar in action and pace. If you enjoyed Percy Jackson then likely you will love the CHAOS series.

Overall, I have to say I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait for book 3!

Note: I belong to a book review program and received this book free from the publisher for my honest, thoughtful review. These are my own thoughts and I did not need to leave a positive review.
